High Heels for High Hopes models on My Party Bus

High Heels for High Hopes models on My Party Bus

March for Babies is America’s oldest walking event, but when it comes time to get moving, some women would rather wear stilettos than walking shoes.

Fourteen business women from Springfield will do their walking for babies in Oregon’s first High Heels for High Hopes event, a fashion show benefiting March of Dimes on February 27th. The women will walk the cat walk wearing one of three themed looks: “a night out on the town,”  “just want to have fun,” or “dress for success.”

Each model has a goal of raising at least $2,000 to help babies be born healthy.

To raise some money before the big event, some of the models took the My Party Bus to attend a Eugene Women Business Leaders networking event, then went to The Bridge, followed by Hop Valley. They collected over $1,000 in cash donations and were the talk of Eugene Springfield.

So far the ladies have raised over $12,500 and have just one week to reach their goal before the event. Donations can be made on the models’ behalf to March of Dimes here: http://bit.ly/WTXjfr.  Auction items will also be at the event, each relative to one of the model’s three looks.

High Heels for High Hopes is Wednesday, February 27th at the Kendall Toyota Showroom (373 Goodpasture Island Rd in Eugene).  Beverages and appetizers will be served starting at 6:00 pm prior to the runway show beginning at 7:00 pm. General admission tickets (just 20 left!) can be purchased for this event through Aimee Corey at March of Dimes; VIP tickets sold out the first week of sales.

Funds raised by this event will benefit the Lane County March for Babies, which helps support prenatal wellness programs, research grants, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) family support programs and advocacy efforts for stronger, healthier babies.

For information about ticket sales or how to donate, contact Aimee Corey at acorey@marchofdimes.com or (541) 225-5023.

The third annual Signature Chefs Auction in Eugene last night raised nearly $60,000 for March of Dimes’ mission to improve the health of babies. On September 25th at Valley River Inn, seven of Lane County’s finest chefs offered their signature dishes and competed to become the Ultimate Signature Chefs.

The cook off, one of the highlights of the evening, had five chefs competing for the title. Chefs were told in advance they had to use only four ingredients in the competition: scallops, capers and asparagus with a surprise ingredient (not revealed until the cook off) of scotch. Alfredo Van Nortwick of Valley River Inn and Richard Balajadia of The Bridge Bar and Grill were crowned as the Ultimate Signature Chefs by a panel of March of Dimes Board Members and a random sampling of guests.

Other treats included a special visit from The Duck, a performance by Ballet Fantastique, and  the talented Bill and Robb of KPNW who served as emcees. The most popular packages of the auction were a seven-night stay in Kona, Hawaii, and the Dessert Dash.

This years event garnered coverage on KVAL, KEZI and KLSR FOX . Visit our YouTube Channel for news clips.

Wild Boar Sausage from Urban Farmer at The Nines: A Signature Chefs 2010 dish

Portland gets attention for many things, not the least of which is our fabulous food.

In the May issue of Cooking Light magazine you’ll find Portland’s Food Rules, touting “Ten lessons America can learn about what it takes for a midsize city to become one of the most exciting food towns in the country.”

Pretty impressive. And it gets me thinking about our own love affair with the outstanding chefs of Rose City–the March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction.  Which, by the way, is coming up November 9th this year.  Returning to temp your taste buds are Lucy’s TablePortland Marriott Downtown Waterfront,  Newman’s at 988, Portland Spirit, and The Stephanie Inn to name a few.

Like Portland food? Like babies? Savor one while saving the other by saving the date on November 9th for the 22d annual Portland Signature Chefs Auction.

And if you’re in Southern Oregon, October 4th marks the 2nd annual Lane County Signature Chefs Auction in Eugene.

Have a favorite restaurant in either area you’d like to see highlighted for their signature dishes? Let Denise know in Portland (DTownsend@marchofdimes.com) or Aimee know in Eugene (AKnabe@marchofdimes.com).

2009 Bikers for Babies

Need another reason to rev up for babies? Here’s why Salem Harley-Davidson is in for the ride:

“This year we want to focus our energy on the Bikers for Babies charity and make it a great success.  All of us here at the dealership know of someone, a family member or friend, whose life has been affected by a baby born with a birth defect or some other health challenge and recognize how difficult it is for a family to cope with it.” ~Clif Fodge

Salem Harley-Davidson is one of 3 starting points for the ride.  You can also join in at Doyles Harley-Davidson in Eugene or Cascade Harley-Davidson in Bend.
